Don't Let The Bed Bugs Bite - Oh Wait...They Already Did
Hey friends and fam! Well it happened...I got transferred! It was no fun moving all my crap but, somehow we did it haha. I am now in a town called Hillsborough in the Durham zone! Durham is known as the sketchy city in the mission but don't freak out too much mom... Hillsborough is on the outskirts just a little bit west of Creedmoor so I'm more concerned about the coyotes than the people haha.
My new comps are Sister Marchant and Sister Kelly! We've been through a lot together this week so I feel like we're already super tight haha. I love them lots! Sister Kelly was already in Hillsborough and Sister Marchant is coming from the area next door which is kinda funny (same district and church building but diff. ward.) Sister Kelly however, is only going to be with us for a little while because she'll be going to Cary with another Sister to do a service mission at the temple. (lots of drama and confusion involved) I'll miss her but I'm excited for her as well! So basically Sister Marchant and I will be whitewashing and I don't know how I feel about it.
Well as you probably guessed from the title: Yes I have bed bugs...This week has literally been such a nightmare. Like no missionary work has even got done since we had to deal with this fiasco. Getting rid of bed bugs is such a process too and because I had just transferred both apartments are now contaminated. Also I had touched all my clothes and everything else that I own to pack so I had to wash everything at the laundromat in hot and dry on hot. (We were there until 11pm.) Then we had to sanitize the entire apt. (which took until 3am). We're currently sleeping on air mattresses in our study room until the beds get treated on Thursday.
And literally everything possible went wrong while trying to do all of this as well. Like we'd forget something and have to run back to the store. And then I forgot my wallet. And then we didn't have cash at the laundromat and had to go back to the store. Anyways those are only a few examples. It really was a terrible horrible no good very bad day (or however the saying goes). And keep in mind that I was doing all of this while also dealing with bleeding itchy red welts all over my body which sting like crap. I thought they were mosquito bites at first but they're a little different. Then we searched my bed with a flashlight and found all these miniscule little bugs. So that's when we called our housing coordinator and the adventure began. We are currently all camping out on air mattresses in our study room.
Saturday we just decided to take a sick day since none of us slept and we had lost our sanity haha. It was actually a really fun day! We slept, ate snacks, got to know each other, dropped our lore, and had deep gospel conversations. I love my Sistas! It was probably the most chill day I'll have on my mission haha. We basically just hung out and had a sleepover.
So yeah my friends... missions aren't all sunshine and rainbows that's for sure. This week was one of those weeks that made me think: Why the heck did I choose to serve a mission, am I crazy??? I want to go back to my parents basement where it's safe and all I had to worry about was homework. But then I have to remember that doing the right thing isn't always easy. Sometimes it sucks. Sometimes we get tried and tested. The important thing is how we deal with the crap that happens to us. Are we going to give up? Are we going to lose our faith? No, we must keep fighting. We must remember why we're here and why we chose this path. We must hold fast to the iron rod and trust in our Savior to truly save us from the darkness as we strive to follow Him and stay on the path. I know that Christ will deliver us as we are faithful to Him. I have seen it in my own life and in the lives of others.
1 Nephi 8:30
...and they came and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press their way forward, continually holding fast to the rod of iron, until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree. (The tree and the fruit referring to the love of God and the blessings of the atonement of Jesus Christ).
Shoutout to:

–I love Sister Marchant and Sister Kelly.
–We actually did find a new person this week! And guess what?? It was at the laundromat at 11pm! We were able to have a good convo with him and give him a Book of Mormon. God's timing is so crazy guys.
Lowlights (besides the obvious):
–One of our two active new members texted us yesterday saying he's not cut out to be a Mormon and he will not be coming to church. The other one we found out is probably moving to Hawaii.
Lots of love to ya'll! Don't let the bed bugs bite!
Peace & Love – Sister Kendrick
