GO BULLS!!!
Hey everyone!! How are my American Idiots doing? I hope ya'll had a fantastic 4th of July, I know I did! Some of our awesome members (the Adamsons) fed us a delicious dinner (which we got to help make dessert for, which was so much fun) and took us to a Bulls baseball game with a firework show afterwards! It was so awesome! I did a lot more people-watching than baseball-watching. It was really entertaining haha, especially seeing everyone walking around with their beers. Something you typically don't see in Utah. And the Bulls won so yay!
The firework show in the stadium was amazing too! The finale was the craziest I've seen! My ears were shot after that, but it was worth it! The Adamsons have 5 kids and they are the cutest! The oldest 2 were at FSY so it was just us and their 3 little boys which was lots of fun. We got to listen to the Penderwicks on the drive so that was chill.
Overall this week had so many high highs and low lows. It was a rollercoaster for real. So let's jump right in.
Last Monday night we put our friend Tracy on-date! We found him by leaving a sticky note on his door because we were looking for a returning member but they had moved! Tracy found the note and called the number on our card! We had an incredible church tour lesson with him and good fellowship and we showed him the font and he said he's been looking to be baptized for a while now! We taught him about the Book of Mormon and felt inspired to put him on baptismal date for the 19th so we did!
On Tuesday last week we had a BLITZ of Hillsborough! All the missionaries in the zone came to help us find people and we were able to find quite a few new souls to teach and saw some miracles!
I lost my phone on Saturday! After we had kind of given up looking for it and were back at the apartment however, I said a desperate prayer to find it while dramatically sobbing on my bathroom floor (In my defense it was kinda a big deal because I do really need a phone for managing my blood sugar) and instantly felt a sense of peace that everything would work out! And low and behold we went back to the place I was pretty sure I lost it at and were able to find it! God is good and he hears our prayers!!
Also, crazy story! On Saturday we were literally in a tornado and a hurricane at the same time! We had to shelter in place at the church! But we were with some members too so we got to chill with them and have some really awesome spiritual convos while watching cars try to brave the floods out the window.
We were able to have some really good lessons this week! We had a lesson with our returning member Bro Parrish! He's a super nice guy who hadn't been back to church until recently and we were able to talk about religion and the church with him and commit him to start reading The Book of Mormon! We were able to remind him that The Book of Mormon really does talk about and testify of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was under the impression that the BoM doesn't really mention Christ which couldn't be more false.
We also had a good lesson with the Ma'ala's! They are a cute member family from the Philippines and their son was recently baptized! They wanted us missionaries to teach him the lessons so that he could hear about the gospel from another source rather than just his parents. It's been really cool to teach him! I haven't really gotten a chance to teach kids on my mission so it was cool to try and see the gospel from a child's POV.
We also had good lessons with our friends Desta and Dorothy! Desta is someone we've been trying to track down for a while and were finally able to get in contact with! She has 3 rambunctious dogs and is just the coolest. I'm excited to hopefully get to know her better! Dorothy is an older lady who was found by Elders on the blitz. She is the cutest southern bell and wants to be baptized! We were able to have two lessons with her this week and I already love her so much! We had an older gentleman in the ward named Brother Hyder fellowship one of the lessons and we ship them so hard! She was 100% on board but I'm not so sure how he feels haha. She was definitely flirting with him though! She said a few good lines like "I'm not afraid to sit by ya" and in response to us all extending her a church invite turning to him and saying, "Well do YOU want me there?" Oh and can't forget when Bro Hyder asked which direction to go to get back to the main road and she said "It's just down the road that way. I won't keep you - this time." She is hilarious. I truly hope they fall in love and get married.
Highlights:
–Baseball & Fireworks!!
–Church & Sacrament as always!
–Fun lessons!
–Put in some good service hours to help some incredible people!
– Played scrabble with Sister Justice!?️!
–Sister Noren taught us the Forrest Frank dance!
Lowlights:
–Had to take Tracy off of baptismal date since he didn't come to church and started ghosting us.
–Lost my phone and had to spend hours looking back and forth for it between the 3 houses we'd been to.
–There was quite a bit of damage from all the flooding and now Hillsborough has a water quality advisory so we have to boil all our water so it's safe.
–There are creepy crawlies here that you would never find in Utah.
Spiritual thought:
Alma 33:11, 23
And thou didst hear me because of mine afflictions and my sincerity; and it is because of thy Son that thou hast been thus merciful unto me, therefore I will cry unto thee in all mine afflictions, for in thee is my joy; for thou hast turned thy judgments away from me, because of thy Son.
And now, my brethren, I desire that ye shall plant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell even so nourish it by your faith. And behold, it will become a tree, springing up in you unto everlasting life. And then may God grant unto you that your burdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do if ye will. Amen.
I know that God does hear and answer our prayers. And I know that because of Jesus Christ and His infinite atonement we are able to receive God's mercy and grace. He truly is with us in our afflictions and He will comfort us and help us when we sincerely cry unto Him in prayer.
And speaking of prayers! If ya'll could keep Sister Kendrick's friends (there's too many to list out) and future comp in your prayers I would appreciate that! And throw America in there too, God bless! Love ya'll! Have a great rest of the week! I'll be back in your inbox shortly. It’s transfer week.
Peace & Love,
Sister Kendrick
