SISTER POWER
You may have heard of scripture power but have you heard of sister power!? I can testify that it's a real thing. Something that stood out to me this week is just how amazing the Sister missionaries here are! The Elders are great too but questionable sometimes haha. All the Sisters I've met are spiritual giants and I have already learned so much from them. I also just love the way the Sisters support, encourage, check in on, and uplift one another. My first couple days here of switching over medical devices and adjusting to living with 4 people in a tiny space were kinda rough but I had so much support from the Sisters in my residence hall and especially from my comp. I'm just grateful I only have to be here for 2 weeks rather than 9 like the Chinese speaking missionaries.
To be honest the food here tastes ok for the most part it just doesn't sit in your gut well. All that processed food has gotta be so bad for us. On the bright side though the cookies and ice cream are delicious so it's a good thing I'm only here for another week haha.
Now to get into the week:
Highlights: I have the best district and it has been a blast getting to know everyone. And the temple this week was truly amazing! We also read my favorite BOM chapter in Brother Reid's class. Alma 26 is a good one!
Lowlights: One of my roommates had a fever of 103 and I think I'm starting to get sick or I'm just paranoid about it idk.
Shoutout to Elder Holen for saying “Buy them a book of Chinese Mormon”. And to Elder Hartzell for basically just being Napoleon Dynamite, what a legend. And to the Sisters because they’re amazing and have really entertaining dating lore.
Wednesday: Lunch at PF Changs + dessert at Cheesecake Factory with the folks, drop off, welcome meeting, fire devotional!
Thursday: Baptisms and Initiatories at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and then met the branch president. I tried the world famous MTC chocy milk which I give a 5/10 because it’s sufficiently creamy but smells weird and has an aftertaste.
Friday: Just went to some classes and had a family history workshop. My comp Sister Moon plays the piano so I get to be serenaded with hymns during my personal study. It's pretty sweet.
Saturday: Another Mt. Timpanogos Temple trip but this time for an endowment session. The spirit with all us missionaries there was so strong. It was definitely the highlight of my week. The Mt. Timpanogos Temple has a pretty standard exterior but the interior has got to be one of the prettiest I've seen, especially the chapel and celestial room.
Sunday: Church day! Definitely another one of my favorite days this week. We had a killer relief society class that I helped teach then an amazing sacrament meeting in which Sister Moon played the piano and Sister McCarthy and Elder Murphey from my district spoke, they all did a great job. We then had a “go and do” experience which is basically just an hour of semi guided study before meeting together as a district to discuss what we learned. I got some good study and revelation time in the scriptures and sharing our thoughts together after was a very spiritual experience. Sunday night we had a special musical devotional where the Nashville Tribute band got to play for us. I've heard Bible inspired music before but never a Book of Mormon themed album so that was cool even if some of the songs were kinda cheesy.
Monday: Was just a Monday with some good classes and workshops. However we did have a cool experience in class where we all went around and shared our personal experience with prayer.
Speaking of prayer, In the last few months leading up to my mission I've been working on making my prayers more meaningful rather than just routine and I can definitely feel a difference. God knows what we need before we even ask so prayer is just our offering to him and a way to feel His love and let Him into our hearts to bless and guide us.
Alma 37:37
Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day.
Peace and Love,
Sister Kendrick
