The Holy Ghost?? I Don't Want That!

Hey ya'll, happy Monday and welcome back! The last few days have been pretty chill. We had transfers on Thursday and I said goodbye to Sister Marchant and picked up my new comp Sister Edwards! They didn't send us the transfer news that morning like they usually do, instead they sent the emails out to us when we got there (after standing around for a bit) which was crazy! The anticipation was so real! My new comp and I have had 3 of the same companions which is wild! That probably means that we work similarly which is good. I'm excited to see what this transfer brings!

Thursday night we had volleyball night with the Oversons & friends! Unsurprisingly, I still suck at volleyball and they take the sport pretty seriously in this group so I still feel out of place there. But hey, I guess it's a good way to get our faces out there for the public (to smash in with a ball!)

Friday was a crazy day with lessons! It was also crazy because the Mebane Sisters stayed overnight with us since they didn't have running water because of all the flooding. So we were a quad for a bit! I'm glad it was short lived though haha. I don't think quad life is for me.

Our lessons were with Lee, Sister Justice, the Agustin's, and dinner with Sister Boyd! All members, which was fun! We actually had a cool miracle while teaching Lee in the hallway of her old folks home! Lee's friend Harriet wheeled up to us and sat in on part of our lesson.  She's been taught by missionaries in the past and she wants to be taught again and get a Book of Mormon! This miracle just goes to show that you can”find” while teaching haha.

On Saturday we had another lesson with Dorothy. Unfortunately, it didn't go as we had hoped. Before we even began the lesson she said that she decided to stick with being a Baptist because she's been one all her life. We addressed her concerns and taught her about the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was a very powerful lesson and the spirit was there. After the lesson she brought up baptism again so we explained how baptism works in our church and we talked about receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost (And this is where it went wrong.) As soon as we explained confirmation she said, " Oh see, I have to stay a Baptist because I don't want the Holy Ghost." So we were like... "Why not??" And she said "I've never been around anyone that's had it and I don't know what to expect. I just know that I want nothing to do with it." So we're like "I have the Holy Ghost, and I have the Holy Ghost, and Brother Hyder has the Holy Ghost." Then we explained what it means to have the Holy Ghost/Spirit and read a scripture about it in the Bible. Then she proceeded to tell us that our Bible is not the same as hers (so we showed her that it is) and she said "Well fine but ya'll have your own Bible as well and I only believe in the Holy Bible." So I was like "You mean The Book of Mormon? which I just explained and we had a powerful lesson about??" Anyways, you can imagine how it went from there. Being a missionary is exhausting sometimes.

We also had our friend Tracy who was on date text us and bash The Book of Mormon as well. So it's just been a tough week in general. Bye-bye most progressing friends, catch ya in the spirit world.

And guess what?? Church was canceled on Sunday because of the floods. Thankfully however, the Mebane ward still had 1st hour (Sacrament Meeting) so we crashed the party! And  Diana and Bruce came! We were also supposed to have our new friend Jay Jay and his son come but they slept in.

Highlights:

–Transfer day! Always a party to say hi to everyone!

   – Meeting Harriet and having lessons with our cute members!

   –Sleepover with Mebane Sisters.

   –Sacrament Meeting!

–We got to go to our cute member Sadie Diaz's baptism

Lowlights:

–Being dropped by two of our most progressing friends.

–Another comp abandoned me for Goldsboro. Good luck in Cleveland Sister MarSHAWNt. I love you!

    –Flooding

Spiritual thought:

In his talk this past conference President Nelson gave us two things to focus on. Today I'll give you part 1 and next week I'll give you part 2. Part 1 is that we should focus on having Charity, or in other words the pure love of Christ.

"As followers of Jesus Christ, we should lead the way as peacemakers. As charity becomes part of our nature, we will lose the impulse to demean others. We will stop judging others. We will have charity for those from all walks of life. Charity towards all men is essential to our progress. Charity is the foundation of a Godly character. Let us plead with our Heavenly Father to fill our hearts with greater charity—especially for those who are difficult to love—for charity is a gift from our Heavenly Father for true followers of Jesus Christ. The Savior is the Prince of Peace. We are to be His instruments for peace."

I invite ya'll to pray to God for charity this week and strive to show others greater love!

Love ya'll!
